Gym Workout-The first recorded gymnasiums date back 3000 years to ancient Persia, where they were known as zurkhanehs, encouraging physical fitness. Fitness facilities were often attached to the large Roman baths, the baths were sometimes decorated with mosaics of the local champions of the sport. The gym in Germany was an outgrowth of Turnplatz, an outdoor space for gymnastics founded by German teacher Friedrich John in 1811 and promoted by Turner, a later nineteenth-century political and gymnastics movement. The first American to open a public gym in the United States using John’s model was John Neill of Portland, Maine, in 1827. The first indoor gymnasium in Germany was probably built in Hesse in 1852 by Adolf Spice.
